Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge seems to get better and better each year, but it will be hard to top the 09 version

There was so much going on Saturday with multiple games going on all day, there was no way to catch everything.  These are some of the things that caught our eye.

 Melvin Tabb and CJ Leslie

Leslie and Tabb

In one of the afternoon games CJ Leslie and MelvinTabb matched up against each other during the game.  Leslie was as active as we have ever seen him on both ends of the court, blocking shots and pulling down rebounds.  On offense, the 2010 Forward showed everything from the post game and high wire finishes to the three-point shot and getting to the rim of the dribble.  It would be no surprise if Leslie finished the summer in the top 5 of his class.

Wake Forest committ Melvin "Big Easy" Tabb spent a large part of the Carolina Challenge showing that he can play away from the basket as well.  "Big Easy" is the primary post threat on an Enloe Eagle team that went 28-3.  On Saturday, Tabb spent time on the perimeter showing that he can take his man of the dribble and pull up for the mid-range jumper.  As Tabb continues to show ability to score inside and out he is sure to move up the 2010 prospect list.

Travion Leonard

Travion Leonard

Wakefield's  Forward showed the soft shooting touch that he is know for at the Carolina Challenge.  Leonard will be an important part of the Wolverine plan next season, but improving his rebounding and defense will take his game to the next level.

Dezmine Wells defended by Corey Raley-Ross

Dezmine Wells

Wells had one of the best days as any other player from the area.  The Class of 2011 Holy Ram wing showcased good ballhandling and his signature ability to finish around the basket.  Wells seemed to be taking over certian parts of the game for Team Haywood.  He has the uncanny knack to drive past virtually any defender.

Weston Murphy

Weston Murphy

The Class of 2010 Apex Forward held his own against some of the best in the state, doing what he always does.  Murphy is not as raw athletically as some of his competitors, but can score inside and out.

Bishop Daniels

Bishop Daniels

Daniels has one of the most fundamentally sound games of anyone that took part in the event, with the athleticism to match.  Daniels should have the Word of God PG reigns with John Wall moving on the college ranks.  Get used to hearing this name a lot.

Madison Jones and Luke Davis

Ravenscroft will have one of the best backcourts around next season.  Davis was one of the best set up men in the Challenge, committing few mistakes and timing his passes perfectly.  Jones takes care of the ball as well, and always looks to find teammates in scoring position.  The Ravens will have very few turnovers coming from this tandem next season.

Emanuel Chapman

One word describes the PG skills of Chapman, SOLID.  Great court vision and ability to thread the needle on passes.  Turnovers are a shock with this player.

JT Terrell

JT Terrell

This is not a player we cover on a regular basis, but that may have to change. Saturday was not a great shooting day for the Wake Forest recruit, but he is one of those players that make even his misses look good.

Reggie Bullock and PJ Hairston

Reggie Bullock and PJ Hairston

Much like Terrell, these guys bubble with talent, but had it in cruise control on Saturday.  Don't let a day without oohs and aahs or big numbers fool you.  Both of these players are highly coveted for good reason.

Victory Trophies & Gifts

Others that caught our attention:

Ian Millier(United Faith, Charlotte)-dynamic scorer that plays with a flare.  Class of 2010 guard committed to FSU

Deuce Bello

Deuce Bello(Westchester Academy, High Point)-Dynamic player with freakish athleticism, don't forget the name.  This Class of 2011 guard will be putting up big numbers for the next two seasons.

Brennan Wyatt(Dudley, Greensboro)-Herky jerky Class of 2010 PG

Jordan Downing(Hopewell, Charlotte) Class of 2010 wing that is a well rounded offensive player.  Has athletic tools to become a lock down defender as well.

Tony Menton(Waddell, Charlotte)-Class of 2011 wing with eye catching athletic ability

Anthony Stitt(Butler, Charlotte)-Class of 2011 PG with solid frame and gritty game to match.  Brother of Clemson guard Demontez Stitt. Already has multiple DI offers

Leek Leek(Veritas Sports Academy, Greensboro)-Wing that was one of the standouts on both ends of the floor.  Has only been playing basketball for a handful of years.  Raw talent that could mature into an impact player.

Damontre Harris(Trinity Christian, Fayetteville)-2010 6'9" post player that runs the floor extremely well and finishes above the rim.  Slight of build, but adept shot blocker.

Braxton Ogbueze(Vance, Charlotte)-2012 Guard that made a name on Saturday on defense, but also has good offensive skill.  Definitely one to watch of the next couple of seasons.

All together this was a good event for players to learn something from other top notch players and improve their skill, while getting council on academics and the recruitment process.
