Millbrook's Jarrick Brown brings the ball up court as Broughton's Cedric Taylor digs in on defense

East Wake is the only team in finals not to finish in the top half of their respective conference

Friday February 19, 2010

 Pac-6 results

 East Chapel Hill 59 - Jordan 40

Riverside 79 - Southern Durham 57

Championship- #1 Riverside vs. #2 East Chapel Hill (Friday 8pm at East Chapel Hill)

Update:  Southern Durham could not duplicate the magic from last season, and East Chapel Hill handles Jordan more easily than expect.  The two best regular season teams will face off in the championship.

Cap-7 results

Wakefield 70 – Enloe 66

Millbrook 42 - Broughton 38

Championship-#1 Millbrook vs. #3 Wakefield (Friday 7pm at Broughton)

Conference skinny:  The general public thinks this will come down to another cage match between Enloe and Millbrook.  Not so fast, Wakefield has shown that they can beat both and should be in the discussion.  Despite recent struggles since Matt James went down, Sanderson is a dark horse to make it to Friday.

Update:  Top seeded Millbrook held up their end of the deal, but Wakefield ended Enloe’s hopes of making it to another title game.  May be the most exciting game of Finals Friday.  The match up of Donzell Hill and Keith Armstrong inside will be key.

Greater Neuse results(Wednesday)

Garner 79 - West Johnston 65

East Wake 61 - Knightdale 48

Championship- #1 Garner vs. #6 East Wake (Friday 7:30pm at Garner)

Conference skinny:  The Garner Trojans are odds on favorites to win, but are probably hoping the Knightdale Knights are knocked off before Friday.  The Knights are the only conference team to topple the Trojans twice this season.

Update:  Knightdale will not upset Garner, because they were upset themselves by #6 seed East Wake.  The Warriors can punch their ticket to the state tournament with a victory over top seeded Garner.  Kasunn Williams is averaging 15ppg in the conference tournament for East Wake.  Williams may be matched up with garner wing Donald Johnson who is averaging 20ppg in Trojan’s two tournament wins.

Tri-9 results(Wednesday)

Middle Creek 62 - Panther Creek 46

Apex 57 - Athens Drive 50

Championship- #1 Apex vs. #2 Middle Creek (Friday 7:30pm at Panther Creek)

Conference skinny:  Top seed Apex is ranked high in our rankings like the other conference top seeds. With only a single conference loss by one point, they are as well equipped as anyone to win their respective tournament.  Panther Creek could shake things up if they do not go down to Lee County.  The Panthers are the only team to defeat Apex and Middle Creek in conference play.

Update:  Panther Creek made it past Lee County, but could not take care of Middle Creek, falling behind early to the Mustangs and never recovering.  So far the higher seeds have held serve and that should not change Friday.  Both coaches should have some tricks up their sleeve though.
