Hairston, Miller, and Kimbro all standout Saturday
Saturday March 27, 2010
As for players outside of the Triangle, Tyler Lewis(5’11’ PG 2012) from Forsyth Country Day was once again eye catching. Lewis not only scored well, averaging 13.7 points per game, but also assisted on several plays. Lewis who has a flare for the exciting play, has already received several scholarship offers. Anton Williams of D-One Sports summed Lewis up like this “I’ve seen him play in the summer, with his team, and events like this(Carolina Challenge) and he puts in work every time.”

New Hanover’s Freddie Jackson(6’3” 175 2011) was solid as always. Jackson looks comfortable excelling on any stage at either guard position, but may end up being a PG at the next level.

When it come to physical attributes, the wing spans of Kevin Thomas(6’7” 200 SF 2011, Christian Faith) and Greg McClinton(6’6” 165 SF 2013, Winston Salem Prep) are the things that make recruiters salivate. McClinton has a good mid-range game, while Thomas is more comfortable down low.

The top shooters on Saturday were Tyler Poole(6‘6“ 205 SF 2011, Hickory), Reggie Dillard(6‘3“ 210 SG 2012, Greensboro Dudley), and Terry Whisnant(6‘4“ 190 SG 2011, Cherryville). Whisnant seemed to be the purest shooter of the trio, knocking down shot after shot, whether contested or open, especially in the first two sessions.

As for all around performances for those outside of the Triangle, PJ Hairston(6‘6“ 220 Wing 2011, Dudley), Tony Kimbro(6‘6“ 185 SF 2011, Arden Christ School), and Quincy Miller(6’8” 205 PF 2011, Quality Education) were standouts. Hairston can do it from the outside or driving to the cup, with contact or going around you. Kimbro is an excellent leaper, that has a motto about his jumper “two feet set, its wet.” The motto was true on Saturday, as Kimbro was the second leading scorer in the Challenge, averaging 18.3 per session. Miller is a scoring machine that seems most comfortable from the outside or finishing on the break, who with time could be an unstoppable scorer from every spot on the floor. The Windy City native is also an excellent team leader, taking it upon himself to do some coaching from the bench on Saturday.
It seems all of the guys who attended the Carolina Challenge can jump, but there are always some that seem to soar extra high. The all-rise team from Saturday includes:
Tabarris Hamilton(6’3” 180 SF 2011, West Forsyth)
Bishop Daniels
Jacob Lawson(6'8" 215 PF 2011, Oak Ridge MIlitary)
Dez Wells
Tony Menton(6’6” 170 SF 2011, Charlotte Waddell)
Tony Kimbro

Hopefully the players in attendance took to heart the words of coach Norm Roberts and the other speakers. Academics, attitude, and work ethic are truly aspects of your life that are in your control.
